Is it a bee?

Why, it is a bee! :D A Charlie Brown bee! A normal colored bee! With fairly large wings now that I decided to forgo the actual count of the original pattern. So he's a little slimmer and more peanut-shaped. I have nothing more of substance to say, so EEEEEEEEE SO CUTE ZOMG. *SQUISH*

Googly Angel

Here is an angel with googly eyes (courtesy of my sister's bags of various crafts miscellany) for my mom. She wanted one to carry around in her purse, cuz she's semi-superstitious like that, except this one came out kinda big for that. I didn't use the peanut-body pattern of the pink bee because I wanted the head to be separate from the body. So I made a nice round ball for the head and attached it to a vaguely triangular body so he can stand if left alone. It looked like a soft salt-shaker. Then I modified the wings for a more feathery effect, except they came out finger-looking and I'm not sure my mom liked that. Oh well, I was too lazy to change them. Now he sits on a shelf with other angels. He's supposed to have a smile but again, too lazy :D

KILLER SWARM OF BEES

I had a request for a bee. My friend even pointed me to the pattern online. As soon as Owly 2.0 was done, I started on a pink bee, which is the prototype to work out kinks because I have a lot of pink yarn, my gauge is never "right" according to patterns and I was killing time between Italy and Spain's lackluster performances in the quarterfinals (the penalties were killer though). My sis requested multicolored wings, so as soon as I had a color palette I set to work. Half way through the body, my sis says it's Mr. Peanut! So that might be a future project. As soon as the body was done and I started on the first wing, I saw that the body was too chubby for its flimsy wings :( I went ahead anyway. I might tweak a few less stitches in each row to make a slimmer butterfly--I mean, BEE!! Hahaha. My mom also came home around the time I was attaching the wings. She then requested an angel. Okay, I can do that. REQUESTS PLEASE, then I can get off my duff and do something :)

Owly 2.0

Hooray, it's the new and improved Owly! He is still as round as ever and now comes with wings and a tail. I had to make his ears smaller so it wouldn't look like he had the same sized triangle wings. He's just so precious. I'm giving him away soon to a fellow Owly fan :) There's only one thing I haven't figured out how to minimize and it's the little "spine" down the back where I start a new circular row. I could just crochet in spiral, but I like counting rows! At least it makes it easier to choose which is the front side! :) Click for bigger pictures!

Owly - crochet style!

My mom bought me brown and tan yarn on my birthday but I did not start this project til three days before it was due, because I am a proscratinator like that. On the second day I realized that I had started off too big and ended up frogging TWICE. I'm quickly coming to terms with frogging. You really can't wait till it's too far along, you can't give into the delusions that it'll come out because you are wasting time and it ends up saving you time and heartache later on.

Again, I was in renegade, devil may care, do what you will, freestyle mode with no pattern. I started off making a round ball and used the stuffed animal version my sister gave me for Christmas one year as a guide :) I had white yarn for its belly and eyes. The eyes came out a bit too popped out, but I found that it worked, except I did not match it with a popped out beak or feet. I also ran out of time, so no wings and no tail. I plan to correct these minor issues in my second Owly.

Wait. What did I do with my first one? Well I had started this project to make it for Andy Runton, the creator, who was going to be at the Mocca Art Festival. I did not become attached and handed it right over, where yarny Owly was received with much enthusiasm :D Are you sure, he asked, it probably took a long time. Oh no, no, I waved that off quite gallantly. I can make another one.

For someone else :) I started it on Sunday during the Euro 2008 matches! I'm glad I'm sort of back into the swing of things. I recently joined some Doctor Who crafty communities, but I'm not sure I'm ready to tackle a Dalek just yet. We'll see.
